Technosquare is tuning the CVTC system and JWT is working on adjusting the VVEL system.  Discuss the issues here!

Mike Kojima has written a detailed article on the VQ 37VHR valve train that included this statement.
“When the screws are turned to the limit of its adjustment, the intake valves can experience a true race cam like 300 plus degrees of duration and 0.505 inches of lift.  This is pretty awesome considering that the stock maximum position is around 280 degrees of duration and 0.450 lift, about what an aggressive street cam would be.”
The article goes on to say a special precision fixture is needed to initially set these adjuster screws. It looks like one could start from the factory setting, loosen the locknut and tighten each of the adjustment screws 2 (or 3) turns to increase maximum intake valve lift and duration while retaining a uniform setting for each valve. This looks like free horsepower. Can it really be this simple?

i'm no expert in engines but as everyone knows the VQ37VHR has oil heating issues, even when driving in traffic. The main suspect is the vvel. just concerned that if in fact it is vvel causing this problem how quick and how high will oil temps rise to even with an oil cooler if it's modded for more horsepower? I love the 370z, i have a 350z stock and am debating weather to trade it in or just mod it.

The VVEL & CVTC are a mystery right now until someone can completely understand the ECU's behavior & how it directly / indirectly controls the VVEL. We have 2 Nismo 370z's and are actively researching ways to gain electronic control over the VVEL controller.

I'd keep the vehicle and modify it. With our Red Nismo 370z, we've noticed a tremendous increase in power over stock from each of the modifications... *all these were done on 91 octane* Nismo Edition Injen intakes (13whp), PPE Engineering Long tube race headers (23whp), Eneos (14whp @ 190 Degrees). We hope to have another ECU tune done before June & an aftermarket exhaust system on the car. Once the ECU & exhaust are installed, we'll dyno again with all of the parts.

Regarding the oil temperature issues, I'd recommend either purchasing the Nissan Motorsports oil cooler or wait a few months for more oil cooler options to become available with quality coolers & thermostats. The motor seems to like the oil temperature at 190.

**oops. I thought you had a 370z. I would recommend trading it in and getting the 370z. It's much more fun. You'll get over 300whp easy with $1000-2500 invested.
