There was an air of restrained excitement last November at the first official viewing of the new Nissan 370Z hosted by Edmunds.com.  Previously Nissan fans had to settle for blurry spy shots and shaky video of disguised cars being tested by Nissan on California streets and conceptual sketches shown on the internet.  Now we would be able to see, touch and photograph actual undisguised production cars in the flesh.

Edmunds.com had organized this eagerly anticipated event, the first public viewing of the 370Z car. As the sunlight fell on the Chiat Day (Nissan’s ad agency) headquarters in Santa Monica, CA, classic Z’s and exotic modified Nissans from past years displayed their stuff for the automotive media to see. Eerily ash fell from the skies from the numerous brush fires that burned around Southern California and smoke from the fires gave the remaining light a sinister orange glow. Even with the smoke burning the eyes and lungs, the enthusiasm of the crowd of the crowd did not dampen. The focus was on the cars - practically everyone had a camera in hand that evening with their finger handy over the shutter button.  It was without a doubt a feast for the car connoisseur and for me - probably the only “non-car” person in attendance.  I came along to try my hand at taking some “CAR” pictures and found myself fascinated by the unique beauty of all the Z’s and other Nissans in attendance.  There were lots of interesting cars to whet the appetite with before the three 370 Z’s featured in electric blue, yellow and red were rolled out with fanfare!  It was a fine escape into the world of the Nissan Z! Hope you enjoy the pictures!
